SHRI. N. K. MAHAJAN
He did his schooling from New English School, Ramanbaug and completed his S. T. C. while working in Dr. E. N. Nagarwala school. He was Principal of the school at the time of retirement and then worked as chairman of the National Education Society. He was associated with Pune District Amateur Athletic Association. He was President of Pune Boxing. Association and Maharashtra Hockey Association. He worked with Junior Red Cross, school for Deaf, Civil Defence, Anter Bharati Balgram in responsible positions. He was founder member of Bharat Outward Bound Pioneers and Pune Mountaineers. He has led many mountaineering expenditions and treks. At the age of 83 he took a parasailing flight and got entry into Limca Book of Records. He was a scout of Tilak Kul of New English School, Ramanbaug. He has completed Himalaya Wood Badge training in sea scouting and Rover Leader training. He has worked as Assistant District Commissioner(S) and also conducted training courses for Scout Masters.
SHRI. S. N. VINZE
He is B.E.(Electrical.), Bombay University and M.S.(Electrical.)California University. He was Director (Hydro Electric) in Central Water Power Commission. He was Member Secretary of Power Economic Committee and Joint Secretary (Power) Govt. of India. He was Manager of Power Division of Asian Development Bank. He was consultant and Advisor to various National Governments regarding Power Sector. He was consultant for Energy Audit, Solar Energy. He is a founder member of Solar Energy Consortium. He has received wide recognition, awards and honours connected with his field of specialization. He is proficient in eight languages. He was a cub in Shree Shivaji Kul. He completed Ist Class test of scouts. He participated in Delhi Jamboree in 1936 which was attended by Lord Baden Powell. He has formulated syllabus of ‘Solar Energy’ proficiency badge for scouts. He was Vice President of Pune City Local Association. He died on 10th May 2013.
DR. SHARADCHANDRA GOKHALE
He was a student of New English School, Ramanbaug, Ferguson College and Tata Institute of Social Science. He is Master of Social Works (M. S. W.) He was awarded a fellowship by United States DISTINGUISH SCOUTS (25) Nations in 1959-60. He was Assistant Director of Social Welfare Department, Govt of Maharashtra from 1956 to 65, Assistant Secretary General for Asia and Pasific and Executive Director, Indian Council for Social Welfare between 1965 to 75. He was Assistant Secretary, International Council for Social Welfare from 1975 to 1985. He is founder President of Community Aid and Sponsorship Programme. (CASP) Besides he was Chairman International Leprosy Union (ILU), The Longevity Centre and Centre for Research and Development, Pune. He has worked extensively for Child Welfare, rehabilitation of disabled, leprosy and ageing. He was associated with planning at State and National level for assigning Social Welfare and development programmes. His services in this field are widely recognized all over the world and he has been confered with numerous awards. He was Editor and Trustee of ‘Kesari’, a famous daily started by Lokmanya Tilak, for six years. He joined scout movement as a Cub in 1931. Then he was a Scout, Rover, Scoutmaster, till 1947. He worked as Assistant District Commissioner, Assistant State Commissioner(S) for Maharashtra and Delhi. He was President of Pune City Local Association from 1988 to 2004. During his tenure Gurutrayee Smarak and Training Centre of the Pune City Local Association were completed. He was awarded Silver Star by Bharat Scouts and Guides. He died on 15th January 2013.
DR. P. G. TULPULE
He is M.Sc.(Biochemistry) of Bombay University and Ph.D.(Biochemistry) of Pune University. He was Research Scholar at Nutrition Research Laboratory, Conoor, Fellow of Raptakos Brett Co. and Post Doctoral Fellow of the Institute of International Education, New York under Fulbright programme. He joined Nutrition Research Laboratory, Coonoor in 1952 and then shifted to National Institute of Nutrition in Hydrabad in 1962. He worked there as Senior Research Officer, Assistant Director and Head of Biochemistry Department, Deputy Director and became Director, National Institute of Nutrition in 1980. He has worked on several Study Projects and Advisory Committees of the Central Government. He has done Post Graduate teaching and guided several students for Ph.D. work. He joined Shree Shivaji Kul in 1932 and was a Cub, Scout and Scout Master. He has attended the jamboree held at New Delhi in 1937.
SHRI. R. T. ATRE
Passed B.E. (Civil) in 1952 from Pune University, obtaining 2nd rank. He stood first in the first competitive examination of Maharashtra Public Service of Engineers in 1954. He joined PWD of the Government as Engineer. He became Chief Engineer in 1974. He was Secretary of PWD from 1980-89. After retirement from Government Service he is working as Consulting Engineer and Arbitrator. He was elected as President of Indian Road congress in 1985. He was in scouting from 1940 to 1954 . He worked as Scout Master in New English School Ramanbaug. He has written a book ‘Netrutwache Shikshan’ in Marathi on patrol system. Since 2004 he is working as President of Pune City Local Association. He died on 25th July 2012.
SHRI G. K. SATHE
He has his education in N.M.V. High School and Ferguson College, Pune. He was selected by Union Public Service Commission for Indian Railway Traffic Service through IAS. He served for 32 years in various managerial positions and retired as Additional General Manager, Central Railway. He was Chief Consultant and Advisor to National Director, Ports and Railways, Mozambique, East Africa for 4 years. He joined Shree Shivaji Kul as Cub, was a Scout and Scout Master. He completed Himalaya Wood Badge training in 1951. He worked as State Counmissioner (S) in Central Railway and State Chief Commissioner, Western Railway.
MRS. SHUBHADA KARNIK
She is M.A. from Bombay University. She worked with her husband in Machine Tool Industry for 16 years. She was selected as a Member of All India Small Scale Industries Advisory Board as a first female member. She completed her training as Guide Captain at National Training Centre, Pachmadhi. She worked as District Commissioner and Assistant State Commissioner in Karnataka State and Assistant State Commissioner in Maharashtra State. She was member of the National Council of Bharat Scouts and Guides. She represented India in 1966 World Conference of WAGGGS held at Tokyo. She was selected to work in Pestology International Project in England. She worked there as Brownie Leader and Guide Captain from 1973 to 86. She was associated with Girl Guide Association of Singapore. She worked as International Secretary and participated in seminars held in Australia, Switzerland, England and Germany. She was associated with Indian Education Society, Pune in connection with Literacy Drive and upliftment of Adivasis. She is Vice President of Pune City Local Association.
DR. SUDHA GANGAL
She stood first in B.Sc.(Zoology) of Bombay University in 1954. She joined Cancer Research Institute and obtained M.Sc. in 1959. She was awarded Ph.D. in 1963 for her research in immunology against cancer in human body. In 1964 she went to Michigan University for further research on a grant of scholarship from National Institute of Health, Washington. In 1966 she came back to India and persued her research in Oral Cancer. She guided about 25 students for their M.Sc. and Ph.D. work. She has published about 150 research papers in various journals. She visited large number of countries for lecture tours for research work. She has also worked on the Editorial Boards of several National and International Scientific Journals for several years after retirement in 1994. She worked with Wadia Children’s Hospital, Mumbai as Research Director and continued her research on hereditary diseases in particular on Thalaceamia. Since 1975 she was actively associated with Indian Women Scientist Association. At present she is working with ‘Moving Academy of Medicine and Biomedicine’ She was a guide of Shree Shivaji Kul for about 8 years.
MISS KALA PHADNIS
She is M.A.(Psychology) and M.Ed. from Pune University. She joined Shree Shivaji Kul in 1942 as a Guide. Then worked as Guide Captain and Assistant District Commissioner. She completed Himalaya Wood Badge for Guides. She had participated in the Jamboree held at Karachi in 1946. She was contingent Leader of the 1st Rashtrapati Scouts and Guides Rally held at New Delhi. In 1963 she joined Maharashtra State as State Organising Commissioner. In 1968 she received UNESCO travel grant for Youth Leader and visited Australia, Shri Lanka, Singapore, Malayasia and Phillippines. She became Leader Trainer for Guide and Bulbul section. She also completed H.W.B. II for Ranger. She has completed Basic Mountaineering Course at Darjeeling and lead a Ranger Expedition to Such pass at the height of 15000 ft. In 1984 she joined National Headquarters first as a special officer and then as Joint Director, Support Services. She retired from this post in 1996. She had conducted numourous training courses for Guiders, organised number of rallies, jamborees seminars during her long career. She has prepared literature on Scouting and Guiding in Marathi. She has received Silver Elephant Award in 1994.
SMT NIRMALA SOVANI
She was educated in Nagpur and Pune. She obtained B.A.(Honours) in Philosophy and Psychology from Pune University. She has obtained Diploma in Social Works from Karve Institute Pune. She started work in the field of Family Planning in 1958 as a Social Worker and did that work for 20 years. For three consecutive years she was honoured as the Best Worker. She started working for ‘Niwara’ that is David Sasoon Infirm Asylum in 1980. She is working there as Trustee Secretary. During this period she has been instrumental in transforming the Institution completely. She had received many awards for her work for infirm and destitute. She joined Scout Guide movement as a parent and soon started taking active interest. She completed the training of Ranger Leader. She has worked as State Commissioner (G.) for Maharashtra State. She was a member of State Council and National Council of Bharat Scouts and Guides. She has attended many National Jamborees and worked as Sub Camp Chief. She has represented India in Australia and Shri Lanka. She is working as Secretary of Pune City Local Association.
SHRI. S. C. GUPTE
He obtained Ph.D. in Geography, in 1975 from Pune University. He had worked as Lecturer, Reader and Professor and Head of Department in Pune University from 1978-89 he worked as co-ordinator, of the School of Environmental Science. He was Dean of Science Faculty and then Vice Chancellor of Pune University from 1989 to 95. He initiated lot of developmental work as Vice Chancellor and developed collaborating programs with Foreign Universities. He worked as Chairman of Deccan College Trust and became first President Chancellor after Deccan College became deemed University. He was President of the Maharashtra Association for the Cultivation of Science. He has held many responsible posts in U.G.C. and Indian Council of Social Science Research.
He was a Cub, Scout and Scout Master in Shree Shivaji Kul from 1945 to 1955.
SHRI S. K. KARANDIKAR
He obtained M.Sc.(Satistics) degree from Pune University and did his MBA from University of Chicago. He worked in Standard Oil Corporation, U.S.A. in Information Technology. He was Head of Systems with I.B.M. at Mumbai and Computer Maintenance Corporation. He was Head of Information Technology with Hindusthan Petroleum and Voltas. He was advisor to Tata Consultancy. He has written number of articles on Information Technology in professional journals. He was a Scout and Scout Master in Shree Shivaji Kul. As a Scout he obtained the highest award of ‘Bharat Scout’ in 1952. He was selected for the World Jamboree in 1961. He died on 13th July 2013.
DR. PRAKASH GOLE
He obtained M.A. (Economics) degree from Pune University in 1960. Since 1968 he devoted more time to hobbies like trekking, and bird watching. In 1969 he started World Wild Life Fund (WWF) branch in Pune. Since then he has conducted Bird Watching Research Projects in Maharashtra, Rajasthan, U.P., Ladakh, Kashmir, Arunachal Pradesh and Bhutan. His subjects of special studies includes Swans, Tibetan Crane, and Saras Crane. His authority in these subjects has been recognized by International Organizations and he has been chosen as member of International Research Institutions and has been selected to work on Board of Directors. In 1982 he has started Ecological Society. Through this studies on water, wet land, lakes, wild animal protection and management are carried out. From 1994 he is conducting a programme on Natural Resource Management. He has written 4 books in English and 12 books in Marathi on these topics. He was a scout in Shree Shivaji Kul from 1949 to 1955 and worked as Scout Master from 1956 to 1962. He died on 27th November 2013.
COMMODORE ANAND KHANDEKAR
He stood first in B.E.(Electrical) of Pune University in 1960. He took his Post Graduate training in Royal Naval Engineering College in U.K. His subject of specialization was Communications and Weapon Systems. He served in Indian Navy for 25 years and retired as Commodore. He started Yojana Systems a 100% Software exporting company. He has worked as Managing Director of ‘Motorola Software Centre’ in Bangalore. The company became the first in India to obtain CMM.SEI Level 5 in 1994. Since 2000 he has started ‘Pacesoft Silicon’ a company which is developing use of Video in Mobile Wireless. He was first Chairman of Software Committee of Mahratta Chamber of Commerce and Industries. He has worked as Chairman, Board of Studies in IT and Computer Management of Pune University. He is also running an immunization programme for underprivileged children with the help of his wife Dr. Veena. So far they have covered about 40,000 children under the age of 5 years. He was a First Class scout of Shree Shivaji Kul. He spent five years as scout.
PROF. SATISH ALEKAR
He obtained M.Sc.(Bio-Chemistry) degree from Pune University. He worked as Research Officer in B. J. Medical College, Pune. In 1996 he became Professor and Head of Centre of Performing Arts, (Lalit Kala Kendra), at University of Pune. He is a well known Marathi Play-Writer. He has written Mahanirwan, Micky Ani Memsaheb, Mahapur, Dusara Samana, Begum Barve, Shaniwar Raviwar and Pidhijat. His plays have been translated in various regional languages and are widely performed. He is founder member of the theatre group Theatre Academy. He has received national award for play writing from Sangeet Natak Academy in 94-95. He has received Nandikar Sanman in 1992. He received Fullbright Scholarship, Fellowship of Asian Cultural Council and Ford Foundation. He has worked as Visiting Professor in Tisch School of Arts, New York University and Duke University, North Carolina. He worked as a Vice Chairman, National School of Drama, New Delhi. He was a Cub and Scout in Shree Shivaji Kul in his school days.
DR. V. V. PESHWA
He obtained M.Sc. and Ph.D. degree from Pune University in Geology. He got M.Sc. in Remote Sensing from Netherlands. He worked as Lecturer in Ferguson College and then joined Department of Geology in Pune University. He has published over 100 research papers and guided 10 students for their Ph.D. work. He has handled research schemes sponsored by U.G.C., C.S.I.R., O.N.G.C. and I.S.R.O. He is a leading consultant in Remote sensing and worked for Irrigation Department, Tatas, Kirloskar etc. He is a Trustee of Parvati Sansthan for over 35 years. He was a Scout and Scout Master in Shree Shivaji Kul.
